VOLITION

After getting kidnapped and taken to a human trafficking house on the outskirts of Louisville, Kentucky, Emma enlists the other victims to dive head first into a volatile escape plan where every girl must fight for their life.

Inspired by a true near death experience, Volition explores radical self-empowerment, sisterhood, and the strength found when fighting for one’s life while also exposing the often ignored world of sex trafficking in America. This gritty thriller is a short proof-of-concept for a feature film.

After partaking of a fish at a rebbe’s reception that kills him when he chokes on a bone, Neshama, a young woman in Hasidic Boro Park, finds herself possessed. As her body and self begin to transform under this supernatural influence, her life and her community's status quo are turned upside down. Darkly humorous yet compassionate, performed in authentic Hasidic Yiddish (with English subtitles), the heart of the story is informed by finer points of Jewish law regulating female voices and male beards.
